The G54 Centre Exhaust Tunnel Chassis Brace reinforces the middle section of the MINI F55 and F56 floor structure. The central tunnel is an important part of the vehicle body, carrying loads between the front and rear of the car while also packaging the exhaust system and heat shielding. By linking the original mounting points with a stiffer billet component, the G54 brace is designed to reduce local flex and help the suspension work from a more consistent platform.

The brace is machined from 6082 grade aluminium billet on high specification CNC machinery. Its shape is developed around the available underbody space, with defined mounting pads, radiused transitions and weight reducing pockets producing a component that is both functional and visually considered. Accurate machining helps maintain alignment at the mounting points and provides the clearance required around nearby exhaust and heat shield components when the vehicle remains within the intended configuration.

For a road or fast road MINI, the benefit is a more connected impression through the chassis rather than an artificial increase in stiffness. The anodised finish adds resistance to corrosion and staining from normal road use, while a selection of colours allows the brace to become part of a coordinated underbody package.

Fitting Instructions

Application: MINI F55 and F56 rear exhaust tunnel position

Recommended equipment: Vehicle lift or level axle stands rated for the vehicle, wheel chocks, suitable sockets and torque wrench, cleaning brush and eye protection.

Procedure

1. Park the vehicle on level ground, apply the parking brake and allow the exhaust and underbody components to cool fully.

2. Raise the vehicle using the approved jacking points and support it securely. A workshop lift is strongly recommended so the car remains level and the underbody can be inspected safely.

3. Identify the intended brace position and compare the G54 component with the original mounting points before removing any parts. Confirm that the supplied brace and hardware match the vehicle.

4. Remove the original pressed brace 

5. Clean the mounting faces and threaded holes. Check for corrosion, damaged threads, distorted brackets, previous accident repairs or loose subframe hardware. Rectify any defect before proceeding.

6. Offer the G54 brace into position with all fasteners fitted finger tight. Do not force the brace into alignment and do not use the bolts to pull a misaligned component against the chassis.

7. Check clearance to the exhaust,

8. Tighten the fasteners progressively and evenly to the current vehicle manufacturer torque specification for the original mounting location. Replace torque to yield or single use bolts where required.

9. Refit any removed undertrays or heat shields and confirm that no panel is trapped against the brace. Lower the vehicle and listen for contact or vibration during a short low speed road test.

10. After the first heat cycle and an initial road check, inspect the brace, fasteners and exhaust clearance again. Recheck in accordance with the installer’s normal quality control procedure.
